Hello,

Well, I've done some reading online but I keep reading different things. One article was great, but only had a list of good color clothes, like shirts, but for either darker skin darker hair types or lighter skin and blonde hair. I don't fall into both, I'm white with brown hair.

I know some colors that look good on me, but I would love some further advice on what colors would look good on me. In addition to normal clothes, sometimes I wear like to wear button colar shirts, with a certain color v neck sweater over the shirt, kind of like a banana republic style, and I was wondering what color combos would look best.

I know mainly girls will reply to this, as it's pretty obvious they know a lot more about this subject then the average guy does.

I always found that dark blues (like navy) have made my eyes pop out and look better. Blues, whites, and browns always make pretty blue eyes stand out, so maybe those three would be good to work with.

I suggest that you try thin or medium thick sized caramel highlights, or brown depending on the color of your skin.

i like the natural look myself......i personally think hair dye and makeup is for wemen who want to hide something...like a mask of some sort.....but I'm a different kind of guy...most guys like there wemen all painted up...and fake breasts...and wearing high heals so the wemen don't run away to quick.

Your so lucky to have pretty dark hair. Being naturally blonde I have always been jealous of Asian hairtypes. Anyway I LOVE LOVE when people w/dark hair like yours do the red highlights, or even blue. The colors seem to pop better with the darker hair. The blonde tips look nice to but you gotta have them done right.

I dyed my hair a brown during thanksgiving...and in a couple weeks I want to forst my hair into a white blonde, I was just wondering, do you think that my (now) haircolor will bleed into the bleach when I do it??? Since you have dark brown color in your hair it is going to be very hard to get it out. But there is hope what I recommend is using a haircolor remover called loreal colorzap. It is a wonderful haircolor remover which takes out all of the haircolor deposited in your hair and lets your natural color shine out. This approach is so much safer and more effective if you where just to put the blonde color in without removing the dark brown color first. I also don;t recommend bleaching because it is just superfoulous. If you where to put just the blonde color with using the haircolor remover chances are you would wind up a redhead and your hair would'nt be as healthy. If you want to lighten your natural blonde hair which you can doa fter removing the dark brown color with colorzap what I recommend is exploring the revlon colorsilk blonde collection. I recommend using the Revlon Colorsilk#73 Champagne blonde it is such a beautiful rich blonde. To keep your blonde vibrant I would then recommend using the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Collection Shampoo condioner plus colorglaze.( Platinum to Champagne for lighter shades of blonde hair). For natural colortreated or highlighted blondes. With these tips your natural blonde hair will be restored once again.

Okay, i have been thinking about highlighting my hair. However, i am still not sure if i want to. Im scared its not gonna turn out right.

I have dark dark brown hair and its curly like large ringlets. My hair is also long. But im not sure what color i should get. I also still want my natural color to show through so that my eyebrows will still match my haircolor.

The orange is a byproduct of the bleach. Unfortunately, if you DIY and use the box sets, you won't be able to lighten your hair without the use of bleach (this is often incorporated into the lighter shades).

Anyways, there are some dyes made specifically for dark haired divas. I've seen excellent results for those. I think the line is by loreal, anyways, they will specifically say that they are for dark haired ladies on the box.

The orange is also a result of fading. You might want to take precautions to preserve the color when you dye your hair:

- make sure you use special conditioner intended for colored or treated hair

- avoid shampooing your hair daily, if you insist on showering daily, shampoo every other day and condition daily (it's what I do)

- when drying your hair, use a hair turban. Rubbing your hair with a towel will just strip the color.

- try letting your hair air-dry when possible. Blow drying daily will make your hair fade more. I blow dry my hair daily, and to counter the damage, I use sleek and shine hair serum (essentially grapeseed oil) in my hair before blow drying. I recommend you try this or a product designed specifically for styled hair

- dark hair+sun=fade. Again, protect your hair. Use sprays to protect the color, use conditioners, use masks...dried hair fades and looks dull.

- after dying your hair, while rinsing out the dye, use cool water...hot water promotes fading. After you've finished dying/rinsing your hair, try to wait as long as you possibly can before you wash it.

- taking hot hot showers also promotes color fade. So while you're washing your hair, turn the shower down a couple degrees. After your hair is done, feel free to turn up the temperature and boil yourself (just not your hair)

You may want to go for a professional coloring. This can be really expensive, but it may be worth it. In my poorer days, I went to a highschool cosmetology lab and was their guinea pig. The teacher was there watching the kids, so I had some confidence. The color and cut were always lovely and really cheap...this isn't for everyone.

The other option - when your hair starts to go orange, buy a rinse or a temporary dye - just to tone the hair. Do this in a brown, just to get rid of the orange.

Other ideas, when buying colors, avoid names with "golden", "strawberry", "reddish" or "auburn", these names hint that the color contains undertones of yellow and red...they'll go orange on some people. (I'm surprised that the ash didn't work for you. I'm always cautious with ash, because ash is grey and when I used an ash dye, my hair went grey...just be careful).

I'm not entirely sure. Going to a stylist is always a good way to avoid orange. Maybe try a light mahogany brown? Ash browns for me have always either turned grey or an orange.

I would suggest you get a proffessional to do it.. only because if its going Brassy (orange) you are going to have a hard time going lighter... If the ash colour is not turning you green... Go a shade lighter ash,... If you dont want to go professional... then get a Medium ash blond.. this will not take you as light as you think.

Blonde will and does show up over dark hair, even brown.

That pic shows a look that when it grows out will seem to resemble a "skunk" look, with it being uneven.IF that is what you want , then go for it. BUT know that dying the hair light is like bleaching it, that's what 's done then. This dries out the hair and can be damaging, to cause breakage and dry ends.

GOOD luck in that , why do people mess with what they have? Want a less harmful change try a wig or hair extensions. That can be changed without damaging the hair.

so i want to go back to blonde after dying my hair a dark brown.. i wont be going to the hairdressers as i cannot afford it, so i will have to do this at home.. i am thinking of buying a bleach blonde to dye my hair, but have read stories of how it turned peoples hair orange!.. i dont want this to happen.. so am wondering if anyone has any advice, i am defianitely going to go blonde at home.. its just i am unsure of what products are best to use, so if anybody has done this before or can help i would much appreciate it as i am going to the shops soon to buy whatever products are recommended, and i should be able to tell all on how it goes!..

Stay a brunette! If you dye it wrong it will look bad and could dry out your hair so much i can start breaking or fall out. Besides, you'll have to keep dying it when your roots grow out, your eyebrows won't match ... and brunettes have more fun anyway!!

Been there and done it.... you have to buy those highlight kits and highlight it with those caps it comes with do it slowly as in every 2 months just hightlight more hair, etc.... the reason why is because if you do it fast then it will turn orange when you do it as highlights and slowly you can't really tell and everytime you add more highlights it highlights new brown hair AND some of the already highlighted hair and makes it even lighter and blonder.

It requires a lot of patience and you have to condition it really well too! bleach is realy drying....

Well, I would suggest that you go to a professional as there's a high risk of you doing severe damadge to your hair, believe me! The brown pigment set in your hair cuticles will prove difficult to get rid of and bleach would further increase the damadge by making them brittle and turning your hair orange. There is NO safe procedure to carry out at home when dying your hair to blonde especially if you're a natural brunette or had your hair recently colored brown. In any case, if you still want to try it at home, seek professional advise before attempting anything at home. You can ask a professional for some tips on how to revert to your orignal hair color. Why not ask the same person who dyed them for you in the first place. If you feel they would expect you to pay, just say, you wanted to know how it's done just in case you get them to turn you into a blonde again, if you know what I mean!

Don't try to bleach your hair over all after just having colored it dark. It will most definitely process orange or yellow. First what you should try to do is strip the brown color from your hair and then try to lighten your hair with bleach. Try mixing baking soda into your shampoo, pour a little bit of baking soda in your hand with your shampoo mix it together with your hands and then apply the mixture to your hair and shampoo normally. Be sure to condition your hair afterward. Baking soda has abrasive properties and will help remove some of the color from your hair. Do this for a couple of days or even a week, as long as it is not drying your hair. Then try your bleach, if you still have orange or yellow tones you may want to try a toner to correct it.

Your hair seems dark so its going to be hard pulling up to blonde and not orange. I would suggest going to sally beauty supply or any public beauty supply store and asking one of the workers to help you find some bleach blonde dye and also get a toner to tone your hair if it comes out too orange. I honestly just wait and save up some money and go to the salon and have them lighten your base a few shades and pack your head full of highlights to acheive the blonde look. You should just try to update your do with some natural-looking high lights and lowlights! (DON'T let anyone in a salon tell you highlights have to be blonde and lowlights have to be black... Highlights are lighter than your base color, and lowlights are darker. You may have already known that lol...) If you want to go drastic, try a red color added in, whether in highlited or chunky form. Don't go too light! If you have a creamy complexion I would stick with brown and black shades. Red and blonde shades will look fine added in, but make sure they don't overwhelm your base color, but accentuate it.

You could use a semipermanent color, which does wash out after several shampooings and is very gentle. A gole or red shade in a medium color will ad a little shine and sparkle and may only be noticeable to you in the sun or incandescant light. You also could have some light natural brown highlights done in small strands will pop up the hair a little more. you can use a semipermanent color in a shade lighter every six weeks to refresh them.,or a retouch every two to three months if they are done light. I am completely lost on this subject. I have never died my hair before with fear that I will look completely horrible. I really want to dye it, but I don't see much choice of where to go. Anything from blonde, to red, to ... just about all the colors most people would use, simply wouldn't work (I mean highlights, not all my hair, on the other hand, considered dying all my hair Black, not brown, black, just to see what that would be like.) Having black hair I would Not try blond. You will end up with orange hair and possibly every other color. You have the option of adding highlights to the color you have now. Which you will have to get it redone every 6-8 weeks. However, my suggestion to you would be to color it a caramel or chocolate brown and add some honey highlights through it with allot around your face since you are tan. I'd say stay away from the auburn.. I don't like the way it looks in the summer... Good luck! :)

Hmm, well I can see the challenge here since you have very dark hair and are inexperienced with hair dye. Anything you do to lighten it is going to be permanent. If you lighten it and don't like it, then you may try to dye it back to your original color, which is nearly impossible if you have multiple color hilights naturally. A drastic change like going blonde or red when you never have before can be quite shocking and even traumatizing if you are not used to coloring your hair, and you may regret it.

If you are flirting with the idea of black, I would try that because it is very close to what your hair is already, so the change will be subtle. With your tan skin it should make you look fabulous! If you end up not liking it, you can always get a darker color to come out (which is not the case with lightening). If you are really unsure and have never done it before, you may wish to talk to a hairstylist who specializes in coloring to give you some advice.

If you decide to color it yourself, when you pick out a brand, remember that more money does not always mean better quality, no matter what the box says. Sometimes you are just paying for a brand name. I dyed my hair several times with Loreal FERIA (which can cost anywhere from 10 to 15 dollars) because they promote it so much and when you go to that section of the store there is so much of it. The last time I dyed my hair I decided to go with a cheaper brand Revlon Colorsilk, because they had a shade that was closer to what I wanted, and I have gotten MORE compliments on my hair from other people than I ever did using the more expensive brand.

That is hard to say, it's all about the genetics and which one of the parents traits it gets most of. I have red hair, my husband has jet black hair; our daughter ended up having light brown hair. We both have brown eyes, our daughter has blueish-hazel colored eyes. Which ever parent has the most predominant genes usually passes their traits on to their kids. It's any bodys guess though, when your thinking about what your kids will look like, it never comes close to when you actually see them.

Hi there. I'm a male with medium-dark brown hair, semi-fair skinned, slightly pale(hey its Wisconsin in the wintertime). I'm in a school play and our costume designer recommended I cut my hair super-short and dye it blonde. I'm not sure if I'm going to do it(dying it that is, I've been meaning to get it cut). I'd like to, its more a matter of talking to my parents into letting me(my sister had dreadlocks at one point, so I'm not that worried about it).

Basically, if I go for it, how should I go about doing it? What products should I use? How blonde(I'd like to go for a platinum blonde but that might be too much) should I go? Do blondes really have more fun? Any input is welcome.

if you're going to cut it short, bleach the hell out of it. it's a really fun dramatic look and it works with pale skin. You will trash your hair but as a guy you probably dont care and when you get sick of it you can just cut it all off and start again. You can get professional hair bleach at chemists but you're probably better off just going to a salon and having it done properly, that way you can make sure you dont burn your scalp or make your hair just fall out. Really bright bleached hair is also a good canvas for crazy colours, like if you wanted to go blue or purple for example you'd want to bleach it first.

It really depends on what dye you are using. Browns can have a huge variety of tones in them. If you are using a blue based brown dye then your hair can easily turn blue or green, if you are using a red based brown it can turn orange or red.

I have naturally medium brown hair. I want to go blond, but everytime I try to lighten it, it turns orange. I found this color by Garnier called 100% color. It is supposed to be good at lightening really dark hair. Has anyone used this going brunette to blond?

Also, if I want to do the shade "light natural bond", do I have to bleach it first? They also have a bleach blond color. Should I use that first? If so, how long should I wait after bleaching before dying again? Help! I am really not knowledgeable in this area. So if you could please be detailed in your answer that would be great. Any advice is appreciated.

P.S. I have recently colored my hair, so it is the brownish-orange color.

You poor thing. It is especialy hard to lighten hair that is darker than a certain level- yours sounds like it is. Now that you have coloered your hair and it has turned the orangey color, it will be harder to get it to do anymore with another coloring. Color does not lift colr on the hair shaft- it only darkens it. Because of the nature of the hair and the differing levels of darkness- it is never psossible to get a beatiful "one process blonde" (one process meaning only one color application). I would seriously recommend going to a salon for a consultation (Those are usually free) to talk to a trained stylist and see what they can recommend. I would even more seriously recommend letting a stylist give you a kick- a** blonde that will not disappoint! :) MAybe a two tone highlite witha base color in between! Have fun with it- if youa re totally against the professional thing, try to get your color from a beauty supply with stylists in teh back and ask them soem questions (The stylist- NOT the girls up front). I saw a few things online, but not really helpful to me.

For along long long time, i've wanted to put some dye in my hair. Streaks preferably. However, my hair is dark brown and about to my hips/usually at waist.

I would like blue streaks. Only I know i'd have to bleach? Then theres the fact that if I don't like it, I have to grow it out. Grr.

I saw some people suggest clip in extentions...I guess thats not a bad idea. Its just the pain of putting them in and taking them out. Not to mention its fake.

I usually use hair sticks, like in my avatar, only I have hair that will usually be out, like a pony tail-either to my mid back or below shoulders, however I feel. So I think it'd look cool with streaks...

i have blonde hair and i went to a salon to get bright red streaks put in it. after a while i got sick of them so i went back to the salon and had them take it out. they'll strip the red right out. it worked pretty good. just talk to the salon about your choices and make sure you tell them that you don't want it to fry your hair! i'm not sure on the prices. you could always just dye over it with dye from the store.

Hair cannot be dyed lighter than it is, to go lighter you need to bleach it, different chemicals, and as far as I know there is no natural alternative to peroxide bleaching.

The only non chemical that you can use is a lemon and water rinse, then air dry it in the sun. Even natural dyes have some chemicals in them except Henna.

You don't say what exactly happened to your hair but if you were told not to use chemicals then DON'T. If damaged you can add conditioners to get the hair shaft to lay flat and use mousse, sprays, etc. to give it shine but you can't heal it. Though you can damage it beyond even appearances. I've seen others who have literally had clumps of hair fall out because going against the beautician's advice they tried dying it at home.

I'm a redhead and bleach reacts strangely on my color. So when I'm in the mood to go a little lighter or brighter I use a lemon rinse. Anything that takes it lighter besides this requires chemicals.

It will wear down eventually, I suggest washing it a little more often than you would with a clarifying shampoo that will naturally strip the color out over time. Making sure to condition too.

Re-color it after a few weeks of heavy washing and gradually, the harshness of the black dye will succumb to the more warm tones of the brown. You may have to go through the process twice. Like over 4 months dying it twice for the desired effect.

Blonde will suit you, but don't go too light - look at julia roberts, she looks good with lighter hair but terrible when 'blonde' try stay within 3 shades of your natural colour.

Dark hair does tend to go orange-y when dyed, so make sure you have blonde toner and shampoo specifically for bleched blonde hair. It is a purple colour that will reduce the brassiness of your hair.

Here's a tip. I dyed my hair that one time and ugg.

I had the same hairstyle and hair color as you. It's tunred like strawberry blonde kinda blondish-orange.

U might have to dye it blonde twice or by this spray called "Sun-In" and don't dye your hair. Sun-In makes your hair as light as you want it and you can control it. It works almost instantly.

Yeah, don't do it. I had my hair professionally dyed so I wouldn't ruin my hair. I was going for a light brown (I'm a medium brown). It took 3 hours, and it turned out to be a radiant orange!!! I spent $210 on it too. Ridiculous.

You'll have to bleach out the streaks first, then dye them blue. My recommendation is to go to a salon. Whenever bleach %26amp; dark hair is concerned, go to a professional. Not nearly as cool, but you could just buy clips with blue fake hair on them like at Claire's. Awesome look! Good luck! ^_^

If you want to get the blue "highlight" look, all you need to do is use a highlighting kit to lighten the parts of your hair that you would want to be blue with a much lighter color such as dark blonde/brown (don't go too blonde, b/c then the blue will be bright blue). And then apply the blue hair color to the highlighted strands. The blue is sold at walmart and at beauty supply stores such as Sally's. I woud suggest getting a highlighting cap so that you can control the strands of hair that you want to be higlighted. I have done this many times - for people who want pink/red streaks and have dark hair.

My hair is one solid shade, somewhere between light and medium brown (my natural color). I really want to go dark brown (with out looking black!). The thing is, any other time I have dyed my hair, as soon as the color begins to fade, it looks orange because of my natural undertones. What at home dye would be best to get a cool deep brown tone, minus the orange/red tones?

I'm scared of permanent b/c i don't want to end up orange.. would semi be better?

You need to look for 'ash' shades; I also have a lot of red in my dark hair.

An ash brown, or maybe even one labelled a 'cool' or 'neutral' brown should work well on your hair. Avoid anything described as 'warm'.

Well there's no avoiding the fading. But don't do your color by the box, you need to go to a professional to best avoid orange/red tones. I recently dyed my hair the darkest brown in the book, and it look great, though I had all red hair at one time, so naturally, I'm still going to have red tones. You should have any tones if your hair has never been red or blonde.

There is no need to go with a permanent product. You are depositing only- not lifting color or covering grey. For cool, matte tones try a Wella product. They have a true level 5 cool brown that is very hard to find. Make sure you fully process. You can maintain with a cool brown enhancing shampoo such as Artec. Avoid sun, tanning beds and over shampooing. Best of luck.

i think (if you dying at hme) go to a good hair dresser for a free consult? theyre the pros and they'll be certain what shade or effects and styles will look great in your hair and you can take this info and do with it what you will. I'm the same. I use black somewhat thick eyeliner and I wear light pink eyeshadow. When I wanna dazzle I wear neon colors as eyeshadow. I look pretty good.

A neon blue using a q-tip I rub in the corner of my eyelid. For the rest I use a neon green and trace the top of my lashes.

Hm. I once had highlights that were a honey blonde color and definitely decided I didn't want them anymore, so I picked up some John Freida color glaze in Chestnut to Espresso and used it every day, whenever I shampoo'd..and noticed a significant difference. Make sure you leave that stuff on there for like, ten minutes to fifteen minutes and then rinse. It rided of my highlights for the most part.

the first link doesn't work, but the second one is cute. It should be easy to do by a pro, first they might lighten ur allover color then add highlights under. leave ur hair at the sides grow longer, thou....if u don't like it, then u can just color over the highlights with brown hair color.

You need to wait a month. White people say two weeks ,well we know your hair is dryer and prone to damage alot easier. So if you want to do it like now then I,d say two weeks at the least but a good hair dresser would make you wait four weeks.

Go to a hair supply store and find the right product - most people it is no closer than a month per harsh treatments (dying, perming, etc.). Sometimes you can simply add a rinse and get rid of the color you don't like without harming your hair. I would ask the clerk or a hair dresser to know for sure.

Just get a dye with no peroxide... since ur going darker you dont need peroxide because its putting color in instead of taking it out use a deep conditioner though

2 weeks at minimum. during this waiting period you need to use intensive conditioners to help strenghten the cuticle.

go to Sally's beauty supply and buy powdered bleach and 20 volume developer, mix it in a glass (not plastic) bowl until it looks like the consistency of pancake batter, and I assume your hair isn't long, so you don't need to mix the whole thing, just small amounts, saving the rest for another time.

then section off the strips you want lighter, place a square of foil under that piece, apply the bleach mixture,, fold the foil over it and go on to the next piece. (work quickly so all pieces lighten at the same rate)

wait 15 mins or so, check a piece under the foil, and if all traces of orange are gone, you can remove and wash. let it work longer if there's still orangey color.

It's hard to change your natural haircolor naturally without dying it or highlight it. You could put some lemon into it, put the lemon juice ALL OVER YOUR HAIR (DON"T MISS A SPOT!!) and then go outside for a little bit and then wash your hair and put some really good conditioner on it. Do that for about probably less than a week, and you should have your desired goal!!

The thing people forget is that for every level of hair color there is an underlying pigment to that color. It is known as the base of the color. Think of black being a level 1 and light blonde as being a level 10. So from 1 to 10 each color has a predominant underlying pigment. Black has a violet/red base. Dark brown has a red/violet. Medium brown has red base. Light brown has a red/orange base. Dark blonde has a orange base. Med. blonde has a orange/gold base. Light blonde has a gold/ yellow base. (These bases are pretty close might be off a shade depending on what color line is used and one is trained under.

The point is that when you are trying to go darker, a dark brown naturally has a red base to it. It will want to pull red or enhance the "warmth" of the color. As some suggested, you do need to use an ash color to counteract the red or warmth of the color that you tend to pull. The problem with using semi-permanent colors is they tend to be more translucent. Which can be wonderful for someone who wants a lot of different tones to reflect through the color. BUT, if you really want to get a nice true dark brown, at least this once, you'll probably want to go with a permanent color with 10 volume. Then from there you can probably get away with using a semi=permanent dark ash brown. NOW having said that... the problem to deal with now would be the highlights. You are not going to be able to use what I suggested above, straight, all over your hair, because those highlights need the missing base pigment in order to hold the color you put on them, as well as not turn a funky muddy color. Since they are blonde, all of the base pigments are gone. In order for those blondes to hold the dark brown color, they will need base pigment. Let's see....the blondes are needing a bit of gold, some orange and some red, maybe a bit of violet in order to hold the dark brown color. This is where tint-backs can get tricky and this is where you would want to have it done professionally by a stylist/colorist who KNOWS what they're doing. The blondes throw a whole different worm into the can so to speak. So many people think if they just go get a box and throw on their natural color, that is what will do the trick. Wrong! It is so much more involved than that. If you can't afford to go to a colorist, AT LEAST go to a reputable beauty college to get it tinted back to the dark brown that you are desiring. An interesting fact (at least where I live) the beauty colleges do a pretty good job with tint backs and color corrections from botched home jobs just because they are cheaper. People don't want to go to the salon and pay double or triple the price, so they go to the colleges. Hence, they get a lot of experience at doing these types of services.

the best thing to do is STOP buying grocery store dyes. go to a beauty supply store and buy a real bottle of color cost is approx 2.50 to 3.50 a bottle and then get the developer I recomend a 30 volume. To get rid of the brass tones you need to buy a brass toner. ask the clerk she will know what you need. the reason your hair grows back brassy is because grocery store dyes have metals in them that strip your natural color out. every time you dye your hair you strip out essential nutrients that your hair needs to survive.

It probably turns red because you might have a red undertone to your hair. Or the dye you used with the blonde/brown was a golden tone. Golden pulls red, ashe takes out red. You want a permanent dye that has an ashe to it like dark ashe brown. I use Garnier and Feria or a beauty store dye when I do mine. I'm blonde but when I color highlights or a brown it comes out red or strawberry blonde because of my undertones. You could also use a color remover, I have done that before. Walmart sells Clariol haircolor remover, you put it on and wait an hour or so, it changes your hair to orange, yes orange BUT then you color over the orange and the color will be true. I got to a light ashe blonde that way before. It does dry your hair but if you use a good conditioner you will be ok. The dyes I mentioned above bring out true colors, so if you want dark brown, go with a Feria, Garnier or beauty store dark ashe brown.

Jenna, I know of two brands that work well trust me I've used them on my self, my mother, and, my sister and they work pretty dam good, they leave your hair shiny and smelling fresh, it may come out looking pretty intense, but it lightens in a few days, so if you plan on going to a party or something do it a few days before hand. O.K. enough said you can try ColorSpa by L'Oreal or Natural Instincts by Clairol I recommend using Natural Instincts, it gives better results. I gave you two options depending which one is available where you live, and they both last 28 shampoos and they wont leave your hair with reddish or orange tones.

Get Garnier 100% Color. You could try color # 433, # 401 or # 366 for dark brown colors. It's an excellent brand, I ues it and the color doesn't fade at all. Your hair won't turn red just as long as you don't choose to use a color that's more than 2 shades lighter than your natural color. But since you want to go darker, you shouldn't have to worry about your hair turning red. It's permanent but it's not harmful. Check it out!

WOW, what a hair crisis. To be honest with you I don't know if you should dye your hair right away since you've dyed it twice within a short amount of time, you don't want to over process your hair. I would wait another 6-8 weeks, let your hair breath, and re-dye it a dark chestnut, or whichever shade of brown your trying to achieve. Keep in mind since your hair is dark grey now it may take more than 1-2 dye's to acheive your color.

You may try going to a local beauty supply store and looking for a dye removal kit. They make products that will strip all the color from your hair so that your natural color is all thats left underneath. I've gone there, and yes it was a very beautiful color, it was the same color as you described, but it is a very hard color to get rid off, you would either haft to have the color stripped, which is very damaging, and i do not recommend it, or you would haft to let it fade out, which could take months, but its you choice Hun, just make the right one.

I tried dying my dark brown hair a golden red brown color and only the roots changed and the rest got a slight tint. Should I try getting another better brand of hair dye or go to the salon? If you have artificial colour in the hair and apply a lighter colour over it, only the regrowth will lift to a lighter shade so if your hair was coloured already, this explains your result. If you have dark brown hair and you want to go to an auburn several shades lighter I suggest going to professional colourist because we have professional strength products that can lift artificial colour without having to strip/bleach. For my client's I've used "deep" from aveda to lift coloured hair and it was a very even, predictable result. It shouldn't be overly expensive for an all over colour... go in for a consultation before anything else and please take a photo of the desired shade for your appointment.

I think that subtle blonde highlights would look very good throughout ur natural brown hair. Some advice though, get them done professionally at the hairdressers because if you did a home kit and it went slightly wrong, you've got alot of fixing up to do. But otherwise yes, it would stop your own hair looking so bland, and would probably make you look younger :)

wearing eyeliner on the underside of your eye will make you eye stand more on the bottom. But you can wear eyeliner on the top to make it look better. While i know you said you don't like foundation you may want to look for a liquid that is not cakey. then just wear it under your eyes to brighten them and blend it that way you don't have to wear it on your entire face. as for lipstick where a pink or a red or just gloss

First of all, you should never wear eyeliner on the lower lid- it just closes your eye in. If you don't like foundation that is because you are used to the greasy, cakey mask most people wear. Try using a mineral foundation applied lightly. Not only will your skin look more even, it will glow, AND it can provide sun protection (depending on the brand). Use a light dust of blush on your cheeks and on the curve of your eye to make your eyes pop very naturally. Use a rosy, mauve color- not too pink, no coral or peach. Use a similar color for your lips.

If you don't need foundation don't us it! if you do ever need to use it get a stick foundation its light and you don't have to put it all over your face like a mask. for eye liner it really depends on your eye shape. but if your trying to make your eyes pop i would suggest putting eyeliner on top and on bottom but be careful not to over do the eyeliner on the bottom, to much can give the effect that your tiered. i would suggest going with gray or brown for a more natural look. also try using liquid eye liner it stays on longer and it brings out your eyes more. Any liquid eyeliner works grate but some waterproof ones tend to crack and pill off. don't forget about mascara! apply to top and bottom lashes. (great lash blackest black mascara any drug store.) for lip stick MAC! they have good natural colors and they are more then happy to help you fined your color. I wouldn't get a dark lip color or anything to light also apply lip liner to the lips and shade in the whole lip before applying lip stick this makes it last longer.

First of all if you try to do it like that your gonna end up burning your hair your best bet is to do it professionally..when your going from a dark shade to a lighter shade your not really adding color...your technically taking color OUT of your hair....if you go somewhere like sallys beauty supply they will tell you what kind of color to get, as in what color tones, so as not to turn your hair a funky color....dont use a metallic dye!!!!!!!!! garnier nutrisse is a very notorious one..cuz if you do..and then dye it again you WILL burn your hair....

Since ur hair is so dark, you would have to go to a salon to at least start if off with such a drastic change. They would need to strip your hair color off. That will depend how long they will need to leave the chemicals on your hair and it will take as long as a day sometimes if your hair was dyed previously. Either way its the most harshest part of the process. it thins the hair being more suseptible to breakage and frying. If your hair is this dark, it most likely wont look good. SOrry, but I would rather tell you this then you ruin your pretty hair. If you really want a change try highlights instead, that way your whole head wont get fried. First off, you shouldn't be self-conscious about your complexion. Think of Nicole Kidman....she is gorgeous and very pale. You don't know how many cultures around the world put more value in pale skin than dark (India, Middle East, Africa..etc.).

Your coloring sounds great. Find a nice bronzer....Benefit has a few...try Dallas its new and is both a bronzer and blush. Just dust lightly on your cheeks, forehead, bridge of nose, jaw line (blend to neck). Almay has a great eyeshadow trio made just for hazel eyes (I use it all the time). The idea of bronzer or blush is to enhance your color. Bronzer to look like you were kissed by the sun. Blush to give the look you get when flushed...keep that in mind when picking colors.

Of course, good skin is the base of all good makeup...so cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin. and don't' forget ..SPF.

hello friend! i am the same as you! i use jergens naural glow for face. for the light skin tones and apply it evenly. did you buy the right skin tone? ytou sould try it for the fair/light skin tones. i am also concious abotu my skin color too and i use this tanner eveyday. it doesnt make me look fake. i also have green eyes and freckles. it just give me a light glow. so maybe you bought the wrong type of jergens. you should buy the one speciffically for the face and pic the fair/light skin tones. i usually put on 2 layers of it and it gives me a nice glow. it sucks buying make up. it makes my face look orange. ive tried covergirl and the lightest foundation is still too dark for me to the point i have to put it on my neck and blend it down to my chest so i dont get that "jawline" lol i have found another brand of makeup that is more suitable for my skin color and will work for you. its lo'real infalliable liquid foundation. they have make up for our skin tones. i think i use #603. a light pink blush also looks good. =) with some mayballline mascara

but go buy the jergens for FACES and geht the fair/light skin tones and lather it on =) works for me and doesnt look fake, it shoudl look fake if you use the irhgt stuff. for the right skin tone

I think you should embrace your pale complexion...if you use tanning products its hard to make it look perfect and orange ankles/hands not very nice! Must blokes dont like that fake look either...why not try a full coverage foundation like Prescriptives and then put a light bronzer over your neck and chest. Go with grey and green eyeshadow...go for a light brown blusher and for a lippie, try a gloss or a light rusty brown

You dont want bright blonde or an orange/red shade. Go for a caramel shade. It will look lighter than natural lights, but soft enough to flatter your colour. You would have to use bleach, but there are some colouring kits that you can buy in the shops that are designed to lift hair to a certain shade, make sure you get the one that is meant for use on dark hair and you will get the result you want. These kind of packs come with a wand it looks a bit like a big version of a mascara brush and you can put the colour in where you want it.

GO TO THE SALON.... a good salon and pay for the senior stylist. If you do not you may end up with orange streaks. Brown hair has a lot of natural red in it... lighting it will make it orange. Only a professional knows how to tone it properly.

i have had it done both ways before if you looking for something cheap there is a kit that target and wal-mart sell for about 10 bucks its called revlon color frost it comes with a cap and the bleach it works really well i have dark brown hair and used it many times before and not had one problem with my hair turning orange but you may want to have some one help you when pulling your hair through the holes in the cap cuz you need to make sure the hair is evenly pulled out every where other wise you might have a big mess. both are great its just up to you

AND now theres 3... my mom was blonde, but her hair turned darker when she was pregnant with me, and my dad was brunette... i read another question kind of about the same thing, but i want more opinions, could it be a sign of something bad? or is it just another reason im strange =P

I have colored my hair trying to reach for this color but salon or not it has either became a bit orange (esp in the sun) ...and now i recently went to the salon and it looks like my natural color (dark brown) with red hints...it never comes out right!!! I was thinking it may have those red/orange tones because those colors were warm...now if i say to put dark ASH brown what color tone does it give?? Is it greenish...gray....how will it look?

A dark ash brown would be perfect in your case. Ash means green. Green is complimentary of red. When mixed, they make neutral brown. Poof, no more orange!

I have the same trouble ... everything I tried always had a reddish tint. My hair is brown, but I go for a lighter golden brown. Never have gotten the exact color I would like, but got rid of the reddish tintby using light ash blonde. Have you ever tried mixing 2 colors together? My friend does that to get the right shade. I use Garnier Nutrisse and like it a lot. I would try the Ash brown shades and possibly mix them to get what you want. Experiment. Good luck!

i have long dark brown hair, and thick dark brown eyebrows. i have highlighted, dyed red, and permed my hair before; so i know what kind of damage to expect from dyeing my hair.

i have always wanted to try blond. but i have been told it cant be done to dark brown hair.

it is said that it will tern red, or if i got my eyebrows dyed to match my hair- they'll fall out.

Hi, I dyed my light/medium brown hair dark brown today and it came out almost black! Is there anything I can do to lighten it? I don't hate it, but it is definitely too dark for my light skin tone. Thank you for your help. Also, does the lemon juice treatment work (without sun)?

This happened to me and I was not happy with my hair at all. My friend suggested I go see her hairdresser and it was the best thing I could have done. She put highlights in it that took away the "darkness" of the overall look. I would have never thought it would look as good as it did, but she definitely knew what she was doing. Skip the washing your hair 100 times--go get some highlights and the contrast will look great!

Lots of shampooing will help, especially with dish detergent or Prell shampoo. I wouldn't try the lemon, I think that only lightens your natural color. Also, you might want to try a product like Colorfix if it really bothers you. It comes from beauty supplies stores and removes the dye (not back to natural though), then you can put a lighter color over it.

I am a hairstylist, the best home remedy to remove haircolor is HOT water and dish washing liquid. Hot water opens the cuticle and the dish washing liquid has a really strong detergent that it will strip artificial color. You can also mix up lemon juice and baking soda and leave it on your hair for a bit to remove some color. The bad thing is, that lifting color will leave your underlying pigment which for most dark colors is red or orange which will have to be corrected with a toner. Good Luck

If the hair color was permanent, and your hair is dry and porus, you may have a problem, before you call the salon try shampooing your hair with baking soda several times and wait a day or 2 sometimes the color will lighten on its own, dont try any over the counter so called color strippers, they will leave your hair dried out and may not strip the color out evenly, if your hair hasnt lightened any in a week or so you may want to call a salon that specializes in corrective color, it may be costly, but sometimes mistakes come at a very high price!!!! By the way, lemon juice will only dry your hair out.I also agree with N2Blondes go ahead and use dishwashing liquid with your baking soda, dont freak out and think that your are going to turn your hair red or orange, all that will do is remove some of the artificial haircolor that has been deposited, the dishliquid and baking soda will not lighten your natural hair color. DO NOT put anything else over the counter on top of what you have done if this does not start to lighten , get to your stylist have them correct the problem,the more you put on your hair the more damaging it is and the less they can do (depending on the extent of the damage) or the more they have to do, which in turn is going to cost your more.

i have dark brown hair and i want it light brown,so today i got a light reddish brown and it looks darker! The color on the box said if u have dark/black hair it will be a medium brown.Haha ya right! You can only see a little red on my roots if you look in the light.

As you have dark brown hair that possibly tends to look black, you probably will only see red tints in your hair. Dark brown caucasian hair is not the same as dark brown afro type hair (pardon my assumption). If you want to notice a proper difference you will either have to

a) wait about 3 weeks to a month and then dye your hair over with the same colour again and hopefully see a better result (but I very much doubt this).

b) Look for hair dyes specifically made for afro black hair and do two spaced out applications. I did this to get copper looking hair. The first application didn't show hardly any change except in bright light, but on the second application, the colour took to my hair beautifully.

c) Bleach the hair and then dye it the colour you want. I would not advise you bleach your hair because first of all, bleaching is bad for hair and secondly you've just recently dyed it, so causing further hair damage shouldn't really be on the agenda. If you really must, wait a while (at least 3 weeks) and then get it bleached professionally and let them colour the hair for you.

Your hair must have been dark colored. You need to get lighter shades of that dye to be effective. Don't get light blonde, just try a lighter brown shade.

Try a dye that has a neutral or cool base rather than warm. I find the warm ones always turn orange. If you are in a sunny part of the world, also try using a hot oil treatment once a week. I don't know the mechanics behind it, but it does keep the color from fading and going orange (I live in southern Texas, so I know this from experience).

The L'Oreal Natural Match is a good range if you want a home dye. It comes in cool, neutral and warm variations, and I've gone up to three shades lighter without a problem.

If you do have dyed hair, you need to go to a salon and have them bleach it up. If it turns orange-y or not the desired color, then you can simply put light brown dye over that.

Remember when dying any part of your hair black: if it's permanent dye, it doesn't wash out. And black is the most difficult color to bleach out. The amount of bleach required can ruin your hair. When it begins to grow out, you will have brown-black-brown unless you redye it.

You need to look for 'ash' shades; I also have a lot of red in my dark hair.

An ash brown, or maybe even one labelled a 'cool' or 'neutral' brown should work well on your hair. Avoid anything described as 'warm'.

I am a medium brown haired woman with dark-green with light brown in center colored eyes which I know is a hazel color and I am drawn to my boyfriend who has dirty blond colored hair and he has eyes that are lighter green than mine and are mostly green w/light brown in the center. I do believe that his hair color and eye color are a huge part of my attraction to him. I do not like brown hair and brown eyes on men but I also don't like light blond hair or red hair on men. I only like dirty blond colored hair on men.

I don't know if their is any psychology behind this. I do believe a lot of dark-haired women with dark eyes like mine are drawn to dirty-blond haired men with light eyes. I always find a lot of dark-brown haired women with dark-brown eyes are always checking out my boyfriend and the light green in his eyes always grabs their attention and so does his dirty-blond colored hair which is a mixture of light brown and blond together.

I would say I'm the opposite. I have dirty-blonde hair and green eyes, but I like dark brown hair and brown eyes best. Always have. I like boys with a little color, the exact opposite of me since I'm as pale as they come; my husband is Native American and I've dated Hispanics before as well.

Anytime you are going lighter you need to see a professional. They will use products that lift and lighten your own color and then that deposite the color you want. Using a drugstore brand probably won't do anything because they do not lift the color, they only deposite. chocolate hair dyes in a box usually come out darker so i'd say it'd end up the same. you need to strip it if its dyed dark, but dont be put off, it'd only have to be prelightened a couple of shades and then the chocolate goes over the top. but beware, if you do it yourself, the prelightener will go yellow near the roots where the hair has no dye on it so its got to be applied pretty precisely. your best bet, a salon, if its too expensive, try a models night for free, lots of salons do them!

You cant dye a lighter colour over black. I went from black to brown and you need to go to the hairdressers and 'lift' the black colour off your hair and then they put a brown dye over it. Never attempt this at home you will ruin your hair.
